What the Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1958 actually guarantees — and how to get a doctor-verified certificate to support it.
Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1958
Under Section 26 of the Madhya Pradesh Shops and Establishments Act, 1958, an employee is entitled to casual leave with wages of up to 14 days a year on any reasonable ground, and — after every 12 months of continuous employment — to privilege (earned) leave for a total period of one month, accumulable up to 3 months. Casual leave cannot be combined with privilege leave, and a public holiday falling within a leave period counts as part of that leave. The Act does not set out a separate statutory sick-leave category the way some neighbouring states do, so short-notice medical absence in Madhya Pradesh is generally taken from the 14-day casual-leave allowance; in practice, most Indore employers still expect a doctor's certificate to support medical absence of more than a day or two, even though the Act itself doesn't mandate one specifically for casual leave.
Employees covered under the ESI Act at establishments within the scheme's reach can additionally claim ESI sickness benefit, administered separately by ESIC.
An NMC-registered doctor reviews your case online and issues a QR-verifiable certificate — delivered in 15–30 minutes on Priority Care, without a clinic visit.
