What the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958 actually guarantees — and how to get a doctor-verified certificate to support it.
Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958
Under Section 14(4) of the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, every employee is entitled to 7 days of paid casual leave and 7 days of paid sick leave in a year, paid at the daily average of their earnings over the preceding month (excluding overtime and bonus, including dearness allowance). This same Act — adapted for the Union Territory of Chandigarh — also governs private-sector leave entitlements in Chandigarh itself, so the 7+7 day structure applies consistently across the Chandigarh–Mohali metro area regardless of which side of the UT/Punjab border an establishment sits on. As with other states' Shops Acts, a doctor's certificate is the standard supporting document employers expect for sick leave taken under this Act.
Employees covered under the ESI Act at establishments within the scheme's reach can additionally claim ESI sickness benefit, administered separately by ESIC.
An NMC-registered doctor reviews your case online and issues a QR-verifiable certificate — delivered in 15–30 minutes on Priority Care, without a clinic visit.
