Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947

Under Section 25 of the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947, an employee who completes 12 months of continuous service is entitled to leave with wages of up to 12 days a year on the ground of sickness or accident, and separately to casual leave with wages of up to 12 days a year on any reasonable ground. Sick and casual leave under this Act generally lapse if unused and are not carried forward or encashed, unlike earned leave. A doctor's certificate is the usual supporting document for sick leave beyond a day or two.
